Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to a few questions you may have about using the site and editing your own profile.  We do understand that some users would prefer not to hassle with these new features.  If you are one of those people, don't fret, just email the webmaster for your class as you always have and we will update your profile for you.

Note: If your question has not been answered or if you still need help, just email the webmaster for your class and we will do our best to help.  Feel free to send us requests for new features, additional profile fields, and any other comments you might have.  We're always happy to hear from you!

Q: My password is really hard to remember.  How do I change my password to something easier?
A: Most of you have passwords that were auto-generated when we created your account.  Please make your life easier by changing the password to something you can more easily remember.  To do that, log in with your current password.  Click "Profile" in the navigation menu.  Move your cursor over the gray "Edit" button, then click "Update Your Profile."  Click the "Basic Information" tab, enter your desired password in the "Password:" field and again in the "Verify Password:" field.  Then click "Update" at the bottom of the page.  The page will refresh and a white box will appear at the very top of the page that says "Your settings have been saved."

Q: I need change something in my profile but the field is grayed out.  Why?  What do I do?
A: Certain fields are grayed out because the information, if entered correctly when your profile was created, WILL NOT CHANGE.  These fields include your senior class photo, your graduation year and the last name you were listed under in your senior class yearbook.  If you still need to make a change, or correction, please email the webmaster for your class and we will correct it for you.

Q: What do I do if I have a special character (e.g. accent, tilde) in my name?

A: Please refer to our list of character encodings.  You can either copy the necessary character from this list and paste it into your profile OR you can type in the CODE for the character in the place you want it to appear and the site will change it to the appropriate character after you save your profile.  You can also email us and we can do it for you.  Please do not add special characters to fields other than your name (e.g. City: La Canada = La Cañada) because it prevents the search feature from working properly.  Your last name has a secondary searchable field to prevent this problem, whereas all the other fields do not.

Q: I need to change a profile to a memorial OR I want to comment on a current memorial profile.  How do I do that?
A: Memorial profiles are formatted in a completely different way than ordinary profiles so that we can spotlight those who have passed away.  We cannot make the "In Memoriam" field publicly editable because it allows us almost unlimited formatting options which could compromise the security of the website.  We also make several adjustments to the profile when we change it to a memorial.  For these reasons, any comments you wish to add must be emailed to the webmaster for the appropriate class.  Your comments can include links to an obituary, an external dedication, links to additional photos, or even your own email address if you wish.  Just send us what you wish to post and we will do our best to make it happen (within reason).  If a special page needs to be created, we can do that as well.

Q: On the old site I was able to send in more than one "current" photo for my profile.  Can I still do that?
A: Because of our limited webspace and the already enormous volume of the site, we regret that we cannot allow more than one "current" photo on each profile.  That said, the system, as a default, creates two "files" for each graphic.  This allows us to post one photo on the class list, and a different photo in your full profile.  If you wish to add a second "current" photo, please update your profile with the first photo, then email the second photo to Diana Scherff (until further notice).  In your email, please include your first and last name, your class year, and whether you would like the second photo to appear in the class list OR in your full profile.  If you don't specify where you want the photo added, it will be added to your full profile.  You are welcome to include your first photo in the email as well, if you would prefer not to add it yourself.
